It depends...

This might be my favorite "consultant answer." It is the answer –almost exclusively –in practically every case where someone wants a pat, simple, basic answer.


We all know –or should –that that there are always variables and/or extenuating circumstances. (If you don't believe it, try answering questions in a conversation with a five-year-old.)


In the off-chance that something CAN be answered simply with no caveats or conditions, it should not be a question at all –or certainly not one worthy of contention.
